The Event Programme is Now Published!

The programme for the Old Great Square’s Christmas has now been published! The event is once again filled with a variety of activities and experiences for the whole family. You can check out the full programme here.

This year, the programme features both new and traditional elements. Among the highlights is the annual historical play, set in the 1920s this year. The play will be performed three times each event day, with one scene at a time. Traditional performances will include various choir presentations, the Tierna group, Lucia performances, knotting classes, and dance performances. Elves will be bustling around, and of course, you can meet Santa Claus in his workshop. Every day will end with a circus performance and a spectacular fire show.

New content this year is brought to the market by first-year cultural production students from the Humak University of Applied Sciences, who, together with the creative producer of association Turun Suurtorin keskiaika, Riina Piekkala, have created the event’s programme. There will be plenty of activities for families with children, including a treasure hunt, mölkky (a Finnish throwing game), a letterbox for Santa Claus, and a Silent Disco. Visitors can also write Christmas cards for elderly people, participate in bingo, and enjoy Christmas sketches and a Christmas carol contest. The Finnish Kennel Club’s Care Dogs (Kaverikoirat) will also be present, and there will be sing-along sessions and historical lantern stations, where visitors can learn about Christmas traditions, as well as a guided tour in Ukrainian.

Creating new traditions this year is the unprecedented Teini’s Glögi Yard, open every event day at the inner courtyard of the Teini restaurant and the indoor area of Gastropub Löytö. The programme also includes glögi trivia, a Christmas photo wall, and live music, developed by Humak students.

In addition to the programme, as always, the Old Great Square’s Christmas will feature a wide range of Christmas treats, handicrafts, and gift ideas from nearly a hundred vendors. Christmas begins at the Old Great Square!

The event will take place over four weekends in November and December: November 23–24, November 30–December 1, December 7–8, and December 14–15. The Old Great Square’s Christmas is organized by the association Turun Suurtorin keskiaika.
