The Old Great Square is located in the area bordered by Uudenmaankatu, Hämeenkatu, Nunnankatu, and Itäinen Rantakatu. The distance from Turku’s Market Square (Kauppatori) to the Old Great Square is less than one kilometer.

The event’s Info Point is located at the corner of the Old Town Hall (Vanha Raatihuone) and the Brinkkala Mansion. At the Info Point, you can purchase official event merchandise. You can also get detailed information about the program, guidance, and assistance in emergencies.

MOVING AROUND THE AREA

We recommend using public transportation, as parking near the Old Market Square is limited. You can find bus schedules here.

Right next to the event area is the “Tuomiokirkkotori” bus stop, where long-distance buses also stop. If you come to Turku by bus, you can use Matkahuolto’s route guide. Turku Central Railway Station and Kupittaa Station are both within walking distance from the event area.

The most convenient parking garages in central Turku are:

  • Louhi (Läntinen Pitkäkatu 12 B, pedestrian exits at the Market Square, Yliopistonkatu, and Kauppiaskatu)
  • Julia (Brahenkatu 3)
  • Toriparkki (Yliopistonkatu, access from Aninkaistenkatu)
  • Stockmann (Kristiinankatu 11)
  • P-Centrum (Kristiinankatu 8)
  • Wiklund (Brahenkatu 8)
  • Puutori (Brahenkatu 13)

The event area is completely closed to vehicle traffic during the event. Bicycling is prohibited, and access by car is not allowed.

The Old Great Square is easily accessible. The inner court yard of Brinkkala Mansion is cobbled, so the passage is slightly more difficult there. Please be prepared for large crowds.

Dogs are welcome at the event as long as they are on a leash and under their handler’s control. Note that crowds may cause stress for dogs, in which case it is recommended to take your pet to a calmer area.

SAFETY

The safety of our visitors is our top priority, and we want to ensure that everyone has a pleasant and secure experience at the Old Great Square’s Christmas.

Security personnel can be identified by their yellow vests. They can also be contacted through the event’s Info Point.

A roaming first aid team will be present throughout the area.

In the event of an emergency, please follow the instructions of the security staff and event organizers. If you notice any suspicious activity, report it to security personnel.

Remember to keep a close eye on your belongings in crowded areas.

SAFETY

Please remember to take care of your personal belongings in the crowd.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET LOST

The Old Great Square’s Christmas is expected to draw large crowds once again. In particular, small children can easily get lost in busy and crowded spaces.

If you become separated from your group or someone you’re with goes missing, the event’s Info Point serves as the designated meeting point. If you encounter someone who is lost or looking for someone, please direct them to the Info Point.

The Info Point is located at the corner of the Old Town Hall and the Brinkkala Mansion on the Old Great Square, near the Christmas Peace proclamation balcony.

TOILETS & TRASH BINS

Public toilets are located in the low side building bordering the Brinkkala Courtyard.

An accessible toilet is located in the Art Hall, on the first floor of the Old Town Hall, with barrier-free access from the back of the building.

Trash bins are placed throughout the event area—please use them to help keep the venue clean.

PAYMENT

The payment methods of the event’s vendors vary, so in addition to a payment card, it is recommended to bring cash when attending the event.

The nearest ATMs are located at the corner of Aninkaistenkatu and Eerikinkatu, about 250 meters from the event area, and in front of the Nordea office at Kauppiaskatu 9 B, about 650 meters away.

Payments at the event’s Info Point can be made by card or cash.

PHOTOGRAPHY

We’re happy if you take photos during the event and share them on social media! Please remember to act respectfully and consider people’s privacy. Use the event hashtag: #vanhansuurtorinjoulu.

For safety reasons, flying drones at the event is strictly prohibited.

LOST & FOUND

During the event, inquire about lost items at the Info Point. After the event, you can ask about lost items via email at: info@suurtorinkeskiaika.fi. Please contact us as soon as possible after the event ends.
